“Now to Him who is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever, Amen.” – Ephesians 3:20-21
Campaign Case Statement
The Watts Chapel Missionary Baptist Church is a Christian congregation that is committed to the Great Commandment and the Great Commission. Watts Chapel is a Baptist affiliated congregation that values being Christ Centered, Biblically-Based and Ministry Focused. Also, Watts Chapel is an intergenerational congregation that seeks to provide relevant ministry programming for the entire family. As a church that values tradition and innovation, Watts Chapel wants to build a ministry campus of multi-use facilities that can minister to people from the cradle to the grave. We envision providing a diversity of ministry programming offerings and opportunities that include, but are not limited to recreation, discipleship, fellowship, worship and partnerships with other community organizations in the Raleigh metroplex.
By the grace of God, Watts Chapel has experienced significant spiritual, fiscal, numerical and ministry growth. Since 2006, Watts Chapel has grown from a congregation of approximately 400 members to approximately 3,000 members. The ministries, staff and physical campus of Watts Chapel have changed, grown and expanded to accommodate the needs of a growing congregation. While Watts Chapel has grown in multiple ways, Watts Chapel prides itself in maintaining a warm and friendly atmosphere. For instance, led by deacons and associate ministers, the Tribal Congregational Care System was created to assist with membership assimilation, strengthen relationships and demonstrate congregational care for the diversity of needs among the congregation.
The growth of Watts Chapel has been positive, yet it has also created the dynamic of growing pains. Prior to the coronavirus pandemic, Watts Chapel offered three worship celebrations on Sunday morning at 7:30, 9:30 and 11:30. Due to human resources and facility resource challenges, Watts made the hard decision to eliminate Sunday School. During the pandemic, God blessed Watts Chapel in extraordinary ways. While the growth was not as dynamic, Watts Chapel still experienced steady and consistent growth. There were no staff layoffs, budget shortages or ministry slippage but Watts Chapel expanded its ministry by using multimedia platforms and technology to minister amid the pandemic. Having launched a post-pandemic new normal, Watts Chapel is still facing the growing pains of inadequate administrative, worship, fellowship and flexible space to accommodate staff persons, new ministry initiatives and children and youth ministry programming.
Watts Chapel is faced with growing pains, yet the opportunities for growth far exceed the growing pains. God has blessed Watts Chapel with a dynamic vision for Christian ministry that will glorify God, save souls, transform lives and empower people to live victoriously as disciples of Jesus Christ. Watts Chapel is blessed with infinite opportunities for ministry growth and expansion. To address this supernatural growth, Watts Chapel is now in the beginning stages of plans for the construction of new facilities and the re-imagination and configuration of existing facilities. This will create the necessary space to deepen and expand the nature of our ministry. As Watts Chapel and the Triangle region continue to grow, Watts Chapel believes God has uniquely gifted and positioned it to be the light of the world and salt of the earth. Time is not on our side. We need to embrace this unique God-given opportunity to impact and transform lives with the Good News of Jesus Christ. This is a spiritual journey that presents an opportunity for Watts Chapel to grow as disciples of Jesus Christ by going “ABOVE and BEYOND” what we have imagined for ministry in the local church. Like the Apostle Paul challenged the church at Ephesus to believe in the supernatural ability of Almighty God to go “ABOVE and BEYOND” what they could ask, imagine or think, this spiritual journey is challenging Watts Chapel to do the same. Watts Chapel is on a journey as we follow and trust Almighty God “is able to do exceedingly abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that works in us, to Him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus to all generations, forever and ever, Amen” (Ephesians 3:20-21).
