FIRST LADY
Dr. Shauntae Brown White
First Lady, Dr. Shauntae Brown White has a passion for women and is known for her engaging workshops in which she challenges audiences to apply learned knowledge to their everyday lives.
Dr. Shauntae is a professor in the Department of Mass Communication at North Carolina Central University where she also serves as the coordinator of the Women’s & Gender Studies program.
During her early years, she observed the power of the spoken word to make or break relationships. Because of the impact of that awareness, she majored in journalism at Howard University, where she earned a B.A. She went on to earn a M.A. degree in Speech Communication from the University of Alabama and a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of Kansas.
She is the author of the devotional and Bible study Communication Matters: 31 Days to Speaking Life in Your Relationships, The First Lady: African American Pastors’ Wives in Their Own Voices and co-editor of Television Representations of Black Womanhood: Being Mara Brock Akil.
Dr. Shauntae married her longtime college friend, the Rev. Dr. Harry L. White, Jr., our beloved Pastor in 1998. They have two beautiful daughters, Nia and Kai. They say that behind every great man is a great woman. Dr. Shauntae walks beside Pastor White, supporting each other in ministry and in life. She is a sought-after speaker and can often be seen dancing before the Lord with our Liturgical Dance Ministry and teaching with the Women of Watts (WOW) TNT sessions. Her gifts have certainly made room for her, and we are grateful to have her share them at Watts Chapel.
